My accountancy career started as a trainee in Derby before moving to an audit firm in Baker Street where I completed my training contract and qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
I then left the world of auditing and, after working briefly in the International Tax Department of PWC I decided that what I really wanted most out of my profession was to be actively involved with the owners of businesses to help them achieve their financial and commercial goals.
I worked for 5 years in a North London firm achieving partner status before leaving in 1985 to become a founding partner in Spencer Hyde.
As a Chartered Tax Advisor, I have over the years helped my clients to overcome a great variety of Taxation problems ranging from Direct Tax or VAT investigations through to complex COP9 Investigations particularly in respect of issues arising around non-UK domicile status.
On the Commercial side I have been actively involved in many transactions dealing with the sale or merger of businesses and also in the detailed planning behind succession issues.
After more than 40 years in the profession my passion is still to try and find the best solutions to my clients’ problems, which led me to obtain the probate licence. I have found this extremely rewarding as I have been able to assist long standing clients to achieve peace of mind that the assets produced by their lifetime of endeavour will be efficiently transferred to their stated beneficiaries.
Outside of Work – My father owned a Gym and Health club for many years and as a result I’ve enjoyed training 3 times a week for over 40 years and when the weather allows I spend too many hours looking in long grass for a small white dimpled ball.
